Bio

Well I wanted to let you know a little about me and why I am here at Bar W as a trainer and horse riding instructor. I'm originally from Northern Cincinnati area and have been all over the world riding horses from Wyoming, to Okinawa, Japan; and even Iceland. I was one of those horse crazy girls who started riding my aunts' horses when I was three yrs old over in Belmont County, Ohio.

Growing up on a beef farm, I bought my 1st horse at the age of 16 knowing then I wanted to spend the rest of my life with horses. I started out in 4-H and moved on to buying a few other horses while still in the Cincinnati area. Deciding to further my equine education some more, I applied to a equine college program out in Cheyenne, Wyoming and despite the tough competition of those western ranch kids, I got in as one of the girls from the East. While there I took classes such as: Horse Management, Animal Science, Farm Management, and Jumping. Meanwhile we had project horses to start and care for everyday. I had a great work opportunity to intern at an Artificial Insemination breeding ranch with 2 studs and about 70 mares, learning every aspect of breeding, AI, riding, and horse management, all in the beautiful foothills of Wellington, Colorado. I feel very proud to say I graduated with an AA in Equine Management from a (ranked at that time) top 7 horse program in the World. Shortly after graduating in 1990 I had a chance to go to Okinawa, Japan and found some horses on that island south of mainland Japan to ride every week, from grade horses to a thoroughbred stallion off the track. Since graduated in 1990 I have actively been teaching riding instruction and training horses professionally from quarter horses to paints, to appaloosas to a few grade or crossbred equine individuals.

I also have my Ohio Open 4-H judges card certified thru the Multi-State 4-H Department and I actively show in Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle Trail, Horsemanship, Showmanship and occasionally a Halter class. I love to stay up with the current show trends. Developing my training methods, I realize that each horse is an individual and though my basic goal is the same all will react somewhat differently to the training methods I use. I specialize in All-Around events.

For my own horses, I use my gelding, Zippn Kandi Bar, (Zippn), for formerly Western Pleasure, Trail Class and Horsemanship and now he is being used for lessons of all ages and leased. My AQHA 2004 Gelding, Select Version (Willard) is currently being shown in snaffle bit classes, showmanship, Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle in Open Show Assns & AQHA. Currently he has been started successfully in flying lead changes.

I love promoting horses in general; to people of all ages it's a wonderful world to get into, creating a working relationship with this fantastic creature.

Horses help teach responsibility, compassion and safety for both you and the horse. It's about becoming great partners with the horse, and learning if there is a problem, learning how to fix that problem by riding, reading and learning from other qualified horsemen. If you have any questions feel free to email me, I don't claim to know it all about horses but there's nothing like seeing a huge improvement in their ability, their movement and their manners after working with them in a training session.

A member of: AQHA, OQHA, OWHA, Central States Horse Show Assn, Mid-Ohio Horse Show Assn and a Carded Ohio Judge.
